Willerup.com

My brother and me have run a personal website since 1995 called "The Willerup Brothers Homepage". Here you will find old boring stories about iceclimbing, narrowboating, snowboarding, kayaking, diving and more from our adventures around the world.

Climbing

Since the early 90's I have had a passion for climbing. Mostly rock climbing, mountaineering and ice climbing. The 9 years living in England brought my climbing skills up to level I wanted - climbing fairly extreme with a ground of really good friends. At the height of the English Campaign I was climbing every day mostly with my good friend Martin. I also travelled a lot climbing in Yosemite, Mexico and other great places. As I moved to Grenoble, my interest dropped as my background in traditional English climbing (climbing without any preplaced protection) was difficult to match with French style climbing, which is mostly on bolts (preplaced protection). Climbing is still a huge part of my life, although currently (2008) put on hold a bit for my career and family.

Cave exploration

I caught the interest in caving on the rainy days in England where underground exploration seemed a natural supplement to rock climbing. As I moved to France the interest grew as Grenoble is a hub for cave exploration and the birthplace for many of the techniques used in vertical caving. I have dropped (gone down on a rope) in some amazing caving in the Vercors and there is so much still there to be done.

I'm participating in trying to connect two major cave systems in South Wales, UK. We're running a blog documenting the progress. We've been digging for over 2 years now with some major discoveries and a lot of hard work.

Kite surfing

As an regular windsurfer and snowboarder in my youth I have lately picked up kitesurfing which is a fantastic hybrid sport in recent development. It has a lot of the qualities that from other extreme sports (that windsurfing lacks) and the fact that you can transfer the sport from the water to snow to ground (all using the kite) is just plain excellent. There is a lot of development going on in this area, and a lot of people trying kitesurfing as it is relatively easy to enjoy (a bit harder to get good at). I am running a kite activity log over at rivernut.com.

Photos

Many of my photos, can be trawled through on Flickr.com. Flick acts as a total storage solution for all my photos with public access to a few and friends and family access to most others.
