You have reached the Mexico section of our site. We went on a trip for a couple of months over Christmas 98/99, driving in a van (named Daisy) that Fred bought in Boise and that he drove all the way down to Gautemala where he picked Mathias up and then they went back up trough the Savage Territory of Guatemala, Belize and Mexico. Check out our trip reports from the different weeks, or if you have a special interest or just want to avoid all the rock climbing pages then use the links further down. The blue icons appears throughout the stories - again for your convenience if you want to skip all the culture stuff.

The Route (4th December - 3rd February 1999)

This is a rough guide to where Fred and Mathias went - Starting in Guatemala City and ending in Los Angeles
  1. Meet in Guatemala 4th December 1998
  2. The Maya Mountains. Incredible caving in Lanquin. See links above.
  3. Play Del Carmen - good party town. Not too spoiled and this was where we spent our Christmas.
  4. Oaxaca - Mezcal Capital of the World - we spent New Years eve in this nice city.
  5. Aculco Canyon. 80 kilometers North of Mexico City. Excellent crack climbing.
  6. Guadalajara - Lots of different places to climb. We tried most of them and they where all good, but we like El Escalone the most.
  7. Cabo San Lucas - Spoiled Americanized tourist spot. A bit of granite sea cliff climbing in beautiful surroundings (jumping Grey Whales!) but not much to do.
  8. Surfing! Excellent surfing spot midway between Cabo and La Paz. Recommendable.
  9. Joshua Three - we finished of the trip with a few days in this very popular and classic climbing area.
Most of this trip report was created during the trip using an HP OmniBook 300
