Sjælland Rundt 2003
(Zealand Round - Sailing Race)

Fred and I have now been back in Denmark a while. I left Grenoble after the winter season (2003) and have since been searching under every stone here in Denmark for a bit of adventure. The weekend 19-21th June turned out to be the day of discovery.

Anton (our soon to be brother-in-law) and Uffe and the two of us had booked the weekend of "sjælland rundt" to participate in the yearly viking race around Sealand. We had prepared the trip in detail and had a handfull of practice runs before the big day. The small boat was packed to the limit with gourmet food, high-tech electronic equipment and a good deal of yoor.

Anton led the way out through the packed habour of Helsingør without using an engine which in itself was quite exciting (the boat doesn't have an engine, which seems ethical). We were soon at the starting line and before we knew it we were on the way. Already in the start did we manage to push one competitor out on the side and he had to turn around to restart.

The trip went clock-wise around Sealand and the wind was blowing off-shore from the West. We tried cutting a corner early on, and was heading towards the Southeastern tip of Sealand... -TEMPORARY END- check out the links below instead. Sorry.

We had to bail out after almost 30 hours of stormy salt water mayhem.
